Yems was banned after several players from the League Two club filed complaints to the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), prompting an investigation. While welcoming his ban, former Nottingham Forest striker Jason Lee (now PFA’s Senior Equalities Education Executive) urged clubs to ensure Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion training was mandatory within their organizations.
Yems will be banned from all football-related activity until June 2024, though training sessions may still take place during this period. He must also complete an education programme for any of the 12 breaches he is charged with having committed.

Yems was found guilty of making 16 allegations that included references to ethnic origin, color, race, nationality religion or gender between 2019-2022. A three-person independent Regulatory Commission determined 11 out of 16 as proven during a hearing and four unproven.
PFA praised the Regulatory Commission as being “progressive and responsible”, taking steps to ensure no one will ever be put off by discriminatory behavior. They lauded Crawley Town management team’s “clear and honest handling” of this matter in a manner worthy of respect, as well as Crawley supporters for showing their support of Yems and his ban. On their website they have issued a statement affirming this commitment “reaffirming their longstanding dedication towards treating each player with the dignity and respect they deserve”.
