It has been over a year since Celtic last defeated Livingston in an Old Firm matchup and for Postecoglou to achieve victory at West Lothian, his Bhoys must find another gear if they hope of making history there.
Hearts
With the Scottish Premiership split into two divisions for its final five matchdays of 2021/22 season, plenty of important places are still up for grabs. Rangers are the clear favorites to clinch another title and remain in contention for qualification for UEFA Champions League qualification; Hearts’ chances to gain entry are much more uncertain while Rangers are expected to maintain their hold on their crown and their place within the top-six are under severe threat from Hearts.
Motherwell are currently three points clear of Dundee United for fourth spot while Ross County are making strides toward not entering the winter break at the bottom.
Hearts and Celtic’s lunchtime encounter at Parkhead was finally settled by Patrick Roberts’ two goals for Celtic. Roberts opened up scoring, before Gary Mackay-Steven equalised in 15 minutes. Roberts then added his second.
Dundee United
The Scottish Premiership race for one of six top-six spots has reached a crux, with seven sides still having a chance. And three teams at the bottom must fight hard against relegation to avoid elimination from competition.
Dundee United under Jim Goodwin have made a strong comeback into the race for survival thanks to a late victory against Hibs. Jamie McGrath scored a last minute penalty as United returned from bottom spot on the league table for the first time in 12 games – providing hope of survival and moving off of it for good.
Though United’s chances were improved thanks to a late turnaround, there remain serious doubts over their defensive stability. A similar issue has plagued them in previous seasons and must improve if they wish to avoid another relegation fight.
Motherwell
With one game left to go, three teams are competing for two remaining top-six positions; Motherwell appears the most assured with 41 points and needs just a win against Dundee United to secure them.
Walker sees losing at Tannadice as an unacceptable result and would find that especially depressing.
He believes a relegation battle may loom large for Arsenal.
Fir Park had made a poor start but Van Veen’s strike, following Max Johnston’s run behind Saints’ defence, gave them the lead and gave their home crowd something to cheer about.
McGhee acknowledged how his life has changed following their victory, which also moved them up to eighth position on the table.
